Wii onlines gaming and other benefits

just asking as i have found no info on the net and partly cause cant be bothered and shop people arent much help either lol but i need to find out if the wii online is useful as i wanted to play Call of Duty 3 online (if you could) and what other reasons the net on the wii is for besides the downloading of the old schooling games?? can someone help me out either give me list of games online for the wii etc please
