Hi Wii-Mates.

Not sure how the heck i stumbled on this or whether this is new or old
news... but apparently some coders have created a free utility to convert
video files (avi, divx, mpeg etc) for use on the wii.

Haven't tried it myself but i was just itching to let you proud wii users
know :)

Seems nice stuff :D But I have Linux on my computer (Microsoft Stinks) so I think I won't be able to use it.

I'm downloading it, emulated with Wine. It request me netframwork... I'm downloading it but I think it will fail... Wine just emulate windows, but is not windows and not all the software for windows work there.

Tried it...

Sorry you guys are having probs. I tried converting 'flushed away' in both
MJPEG and FLV. With MJPEG the movie went from 699meg to over 2gig
and with FLV it converted to 392meg.

Don't get me wrong here but watching a movie on wii over 2gig in size is
just silly. With FLV the quality and sound were good but when you consider
that FLV was intended for online use (youtube etc) the playback was in a
very small window (probably explaining why it looked so good lol)

Converting was pretty fast for both formats though. I have a dual core cpu
so that probably had something to do with it (10mins for MJPEG)

Using the convertor is not that bad really.

Load the convertor.
Select 'convert' at the top of the programs window.
Click the 'Current Conversion' tab that appears.
Click 'Convert Video' (beneath the progress bar) to select file.
Select filename and format you want to convert to (on the right handside)
Press 'Start' to begin conversion.

Incidentally, the finished/converted files are placed in 'Converted videos'
folder found in 'My Documents'. I couldn't somehow get the convertor to
actually play the flv file. So, i had to download a separate flv player found
on the net. There are quite a few around so you shouldn't have a problem
finding one.

If you need more help or have some questions then why not try the forum for
the convertor...

Some may feel all this messing around isn't worth it yet. Maybe, but this is
only the start and i think it will get better and easier.

Another link..

Little wii update ;)

Found this link where someone plays video's on wii (japanese wii). Theres a
real funny video clip towards the end. Kind of reminded me of south park
voice overs lol.

(quote from link below - "Through the photo channel the Wii can play movies in MJPEG format")
