TP was definitely not a chore, it was wicked fun. I found Majora's mask to be a bit uncomfortable to play sometimes due to the time limit. It made me too stressed out to take my time to think things through since I was constantly thinking OMG1DAYLEFTITSNIGHTTIMEI'MSCREWED.

He probably thinks it's a chore because TP can turn into a maze sometimes.

Well that's one of the things about Zelda that made it so widely popular and unique: its adventure category with tough puzzle mechanics thrown in. Zelda is known for it's puzzles!

Some part can feel like "a chore," but the overall storyline/gameplay of Twilight Princess is fantastic. Every game will have its flaws, no doubt about it, Twilight Princess in definitely no exception.

Especially the puzzle with the statues, that got me so mad I eventually gave up and went on the Internet for the correct answers.

So you get frustrated with all the puzzles? And you prefer just "shoot-em-up" games because all you have to do is kill the guy?
Sorry for being rude but I really enjoyed playing this game.

I can understand where these people are coming from when they say its more like a chore then a game, because I felt the same way. My situation is a little different tho, see when I had my first Wii I got all the way up to the sky temple and my Wii got fried and I lost everything. Then I got my second Wii and start ALL over and got up to the shadow temple or where your sword starts to glow, and what happens? My Wii gets fried again! This is now my third Wii. Now that time I had the data saved up to the sky temple, so that is where I am currently at and let me tell ya I would love to finish the game but I am just so tired of repeating everything over and over. So now I look at the game and think, do I even want to try? Maybe this summer I will finish it.

Hmm... Seems like you found a bad explanation.
The point is.... there is no chronology to the Zelda series. Think of them like the Final Fantasy series. Yes, every Zelda game has a Link, every Zelda game has a Zelda, most have Ganon (or Ganondorf) and lately Epona is a recurring character. There's a land of Hyrule, there's Gorons, etc, etc, etc.
But Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is not in the same 'timeline' as Ocarina of Time or Wind Waker. Some people try to fit the chronology together, but that's not the way they were designed. Just like Final Fantasy 6 is not in the same timeline as Final Fantasy 10. (Majora's Mask is an exception, which clearly states at the beginning of that game that it follows Ocarina of Time.)
This lets you get a set of games that feels like sequels, but allows the makers to have unique storylines each time, making each game interesting from a storyline standpoint.

I guess it is my fault to be honest. I haven't played a Zelda game since the super Nintendo one. When I got it I was enjoying it at first, but then I got confused on why Link was reduced to a ranch worker and did not know of Zelda what-so-ever. So I decided to do some back story and found out that the chronology of the Zelda series is so ****ed up it is beyond repair. I have no idea why, but it completely threw me off from enjoying this game.
In addition that cat-thing that giggles every time it pops up is annoying as hell. I want to elbow it in it's eye.

I am sorry, but that is the stupidest excuse I have ever heard for hating Twilight Princess.
Here is a quote from my thread "Storyline and History of Hyrule Explained":
Quote:
|
“The true heart of the Zelda games is the game play, if you can’t enjoy the game play, you won’t enjoy the game or the story. Instead of looking at all the Zelda games as a whole, try looking at each one separately, after all, that is the way they are developed; it’s not like Zelda is like Lord of the Rings. Each Zelda game is a different legend and a different experience. You don’t have to get the first one to understand the story of the 3rd one, the 6th one or even the last one. Zelda games are not meant to connect in a line, they aren’t meant to tell the entire history of Hyrule, they’re meant to be single, fun experiences. But hey, don’t sweat it, it’s not something that deserves a loss of sleep…SO JUST ENJOY THE ****ING GAMES AND HAVE A GREAT DAY!"
|
In summary, you don't have to understand the game to enjoy it! You can play any LoZ game (excluding Majora's Mask) for the first time and still understand it. It's not very complicated. I first played Legend of Zelda when I was 7 and I still understood it...

Very well said. The Zelda series has been created, and has continued to be created, as bits and pieces in no particular order. This was done to keep a freshness and sense of "BRAND NEW!" into every Zelda release but keeping (at least some of) the same characters to keep it familiar for the long-time players (while still appealing to newbies). There are games that are in the same timeline and directly connected, as Dretzle said, such as Ocarina of time and Majora's Mask. Another good example, Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass. Ages and Seasons. Etc. Is that a reason to be put off from the game? NO! Twilight Princess is a new timeline in no way connected to any of the other games. It's a brand new adventure for Link. Do not be confused.

I view each Zelda game like a separate dream. Some of the characters might remain the same, but each is unique and there doesn't have to be a logical connection between one and the next.
And it truly does sound like the OP really isn't a good match for Zelda-type games.

Well apparently, when Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of these amazing games was interviewed and asked to explain the timeline, he did NOT say "it was not designed to be linked together", he TRIED to explain it. Here is an attempt to put the storyline together:
