I have a Linksys Router Version 8 and my computers are about 15 feet away from my HD Flatscreen TV.
I first tried to simply connect my 360 with a seperate ethernet cord since the one it came with was WAY to short. The lights on my HUB are flashing which indicate that it recognizing it, yet they are flashing on and off...
I run a diagnostic on the 360 and it says that my network Adapter isnt working. I test the same cable with my computers and stuff and it works fine.
Now after trying this with 3 cables Im guessing that it is the 360 that is broke but just to make sure I bring it to my Computers and try the Ethernet cable that came with the 360 and it actually works.
Now my question is why doesnt it work with my other cables? Also is it possible to buy an extra long cable that I know will work?
And I dont feel like spending $100 on a wireless box for my 360 when wired it cheaper, faster and if set up right better.
Ty for your help :P

I've benn trying diffrent cables yet only the origonal cable that came with the 360 acutally works.. Does the 360 take only a certain type of ethernet cable?

Ethernet is ethernet. The cables/connectors/ports are all standard (Cat5's)
So to confirm (since that part of your post is a little sketchy):
- All the cables work on a PC
- None of the long cables that will reach work with the XBOX
- The OEM XBOX cable *does* work when you move your XBOX to another location (this is the item I can't determine from your post)
- I'm assuming the router you're trying to use with your XBOX has been tested to confirm operation).
Possible reasons:
- A rash of bad cables that work intermitently
- The connector on the XBOX is a little off, so some cables aren't getting a solid connection.
- Bad router (possibly isolated to specific ports, dependent on the 4th item above )

well in a sense, unless you are talking about Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, Cat7... or there are older classified 'Cats'

but yes the above should be worth considering OP..
if you have 2 cables you know that definitely work that would reach the whole distance if joined, you can get 'couplers' that are fine, and cheap too, 99p or less in many places, might be worth a thought too

Ok.
The origonal cable that came with the 360 works but I have to move my 360 to reach the HUB near my computer, so now i cant play on my Tv
Anyother ethernet cables dont work but do recognize the 360. The lights on the hub flash on and off.
Ive tested those ethernet cables and they work fine with other stuff.
Question is: why does it not recognize the other ethernet cables? Is the 360 one made diffrently?
Also where could I buy a ethernet cable that would "actually" work

1) Either the cables or XBOX port are working intermittently, or the physical connectors just aren't working with the XBOX port (see #2).
2) Not in that it's the same specification, but cables can be made poorly, or use slightly variant components. We had a scanner interface cable (for a CCD barcode reader) that used a "standard keyboard interface", yet it would not plug into some Dell notebooks (the rear plastic blocked the port ever so slightly). So on occasion you run into weird physical issues (though I'm reaching a touch).
3) Again, in the context of what you're doing, any cable should be fine. I make my own (box of cable, crimper, connectors), so I don't have to second guess anything and can get the exact sizes I need, but you shouldn't need to get that exotic (I also have a 24U rack at my house, so I'm a nutjob...).
I would also find it bizzare if the XBOX is having some issue with the signal from a longer cable (as the lengths you've mentioned are well within the specification - if you were talking 10X that long we'd have another option to test.
If I were you, I'd just go to BB/CC/Frys/CompUSA/etc., pick up a couple of proper length cables, from different suppliers if possible, and give it another try. You run into two more cables (especially different brands) that aren't working, there's definitely something more mysterious at work. Just hang into your receipt, most of those stores have zero issues returning something like cables.
Good Luck!
