Widescreen over stretching

I noticed a problem with my Xbox when I got home from school

The image seems to be streched too far out. Ti image itself isn't stretched out of porportion, it's just that there is too much image on the left and right side. It spills off the screen a bit. It doesn't make much of a difference on COD4, but when I'm playing GTA4 it actually cuts off a small slice of my mini map. And you know how the game give you directions when you do something new at the top left hand of the screen? the first letter of every line of text gets cut off. It's kind of annoying. IS there a place in the consol settings that I can adjust screen alignment?

I'm using a Sony television. It's not a widescreen TV, but it displays in widescreen when you set it to. I'm using the Xbox brand component cables. My resolution is 720p. I did set it down from 1080i, which helped the clipping a bit, but there is still some.
