Theres a slight prob with free forums and that mainly is they dont tend to let you fully customise the layout
(server space will be taken up)
There are little hacks that you can use to change things

Like in when your creating a new section you can put in a HTML code for something like a video or a picture and it will be displayed instead of words.

The only decent way is to make your own and host it on your own servers
But its costly

Most free forum hosts have them
But your under there rule so if they dont like you you can kiss your forum goodbye

The restrictions aren't that harsh. Plus it's pretty easy to start from scratch.

You shoulda seen the one I used to use before there server went tits up
"Eamped" in its dying few months there main forum was overrun with spambots

Oh, I never started a really big community, so I don't know about that.

It was just handy to have one so me & my friends could talk and exchange data.

It's dead currently, but I'm planing a relaunch sooner or later.
