Publisher Eidos Interactive revealed a new intellectual property for Wii called Monster Lab.
Monster Lab, in development at Backbone Entertainment, is a story-driven action RPG that merges the general gameplay of Nintendo's Pokemon franchise with an artistic style similar to that of Tim Burton. Players will help Professor Fuseless fight "bad monsters" that are terrorizing citizens by constructing and customizing their own monsters. Players will have over 300 items and 150 monster parts, both biological and mechanical, to choose from when creating their fighter.
Fighting in Monster Lab will be turn-based, with your monster's health, attack, defense and energy points determined initially during the building process. Monsters will posses special attacks in the form of transformations. The Wii Remote and Nunchuk will be used for monster construction, battling and various mini-games.
Adam Beechen, who wrote for numerous television shows such as Teen Titans, The Batman and X-Men Evolution, will provide the script for Monster Lab. Musician Crispin Hands - who contributed to the soundtrack of games such as Metroid Prime, Need for Speed III and Company of Heroes - will work on Monster Lab's musical score.
Backbone Entertainment has been working on Monster Lab since November 2006 and will try to incorporate online and DS connectivity features before the game's expected Summer 2008 release.
