Official FIFA World Cup South Africa Game Announced for Wii-1.052010-01-27 13:33:18Maura S

Electronic Arts has today announced that it will be releasing the only official and exclusively licensed game for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa. As with all other versions of the game, the Nintendo Wii game will feature a virtual reproduction of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which will include all 199 national teams that took part in qualification, all 10 official stadiums that will be used in South Africa, plus stadiums from each qualifying region.

The Wii version of the game will also feature a head-to-head challenge mode called Zakumi’s Dream Team, in which you start off with a random selection of players, and then build your team by stealing an opposition player after each victory. Doesn’t sound very sporting! Anyway, get your hands on your rival teams’ players by winning challenges and picking the player that you want. EA Sports says that there will even be a facility to take your team to your friend’s house on your Wii Remote.

In terms of multiplayer modes, fans will be able to compete in a knockout-style tournament called Global Elimination against up to three friends in which you can strategically select countries to play as, create alliances, and gang-up on rivals on your way to becoming champion.

Other modes include head-to-head challenges either against friends or the CPU using the Strike It System, where players must shake the Wii Remote accurately in an attempt to score a goal or defend free kicks, penalties and corners.

No screenshots of the Wii version have been released yet so you’ll have to make do with this shiny and sparkly shot of the cover for now. Nice.

2010 FIFA World Cup will be available for the Wii in North America on April 27th, and in stores throughout Asia and Europe from April 30th.
