question regarding wii

If someone was to purchase a wii in japan... are they the same as in the united states? i know with past systems sometimes there is compatibility issues with games and such... is this true with the nintendo wii? Does anybody know? Thanks.

I do not think so, since the GameCube wasnt, you needed a FreeLoader.
But I still think they are not the same.

nope, Wiis are region locked if you got one in japan it wouldn't play any games that come from North america or Europe
