what is a friend code

Somebody who gets this tell me what it is and how to use it

It's a unique code which is issued to you by nintendo when you use their online service. You can use it like a "buddy" system to identify friends (or enemies) and can be used for various things, typically joining them in chat areas or games.

It's a little bit like msn messenger in that you can see when your friends are online etc, you can also send messages to your "buddies" (I think).
