BWII online problems

Just got the new battalion wars, but am having some trouble connecting online.

I'll go to play anyone- and have tried every possible combination of co-op skirmish, etc.

BUT- when I do get connected to someone I get disconnected again after seeing their profile and the loading screen.

Is anyone else having this problem? Its not my internet connection or wii, I played a match of strikers online to test it out.

Can you play online with strangers or do you need friend codes to play? I know nobody with a Wii, so I am hoping I can just go online and play...
