Last temple question

when you are up to the BIG KEY in the last temple, and your "group of friends (I don't remember the name -Telma's Group-)" appears, what is their purpose after they help you kill all those enemies?

They do absolutely nothing useful! You will not find them after that point, not even in the pub. The monkeys are more helpful than them.
