At 9 a.m. today Pacific time, Nintendo launched the Wii U at E3, with a live presentation that I’m sure we’ve all been glued to, as well as a video presentation afterwards of some of the main games, for those of us not lucky enough to be hot-footing it straight to the show floor for hands on time with the Wii U. As ever, it was very exciting to watch the events of the conference unfold, with Shigeru Miyamoto opening the whole shindig and introducing Pikmin 3 in the most vivid of ways, walking onstage to rapturous applause. As Games Industry reports, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime acted as the main master of ceremonies following the opening sequence, announcing and demoing the likes of New Super Mario Bros. U and Wii Fit U, as well as two new Nintendo IPs, SiNG, which is an interactive music performance game, as you might expect, and NintendoLand, which Reggie seemed to really go to town on, heralding it as the best way for people to see all that the Wii U controller can do, although it has to be said that it looked like just a big collection of casual games featuring Nintendo’s best loved characters.

As far as the hardcore games are concerned, the press conference concentrated on Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition from Warner Bros. Interactive, and ZombiU, both of which look excellent, and you could really get a feel of how well the touchscreen controller works with the games, but I know a lot of fans were hoping for a new Mario or Zelda game to really show off the console. Other games mentioned (many of which we’ve already heard about) include Mass Effect 3, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Darksiders II, Trine 2: Director's Cut, Rayman Legends, Ninja Gaiden 3, Aliens: Colonial Marines, and Assassin’s Creed 3. All very impressive, it has to be said, as is, LEGO City: Undercover from TT Games and Nintendo. So what do you think? Has Nintendo done enough to sell you on the Wii U, or were you disappointed?
