Playing import games on the Wii

Hi, i was just wondering if the Wii will play import games from the USA. I know the Gamecube would if you used the freeloader software so what about Wii?. is it region free etc. just wondering because the exchange rate is favourable at the moment and games could work out much cheaper.

i havent tried any freeloader gamcube stuff in my wii...

i did put my wii games into my uncle's american wii and vice versa, neither worked..
