Tenchu Z help needed...

Ok so I just bought Tenchu z and I am in the tutorial part and I can't seem to be able to aquire my grapple! What is wrong? My D-pad is perfectly fine could it be the game?

Try lookin in the options menu for the controlls
Or in the manual
