Wii MLB Powerpros 2 player mode problems

We rented the MLB Powerpros from Blockbuster. My son and I want to play 2 player mode, I select two player then it pops up a screen that says "Please press button of remote you want to use" well we try everything with the 2nd remote and nothing happens, which button do we push? I tried them all, I tried holding the 1 & 2 buttons down for a long time, nothing seemd to work.

Anyone know the proper procedure for getting into two player mode?

re-sync ? im guessing that would help or active your 2nd remote before starting the game.

I tried adding the remote before starting up the game, didn't work. It went away before I got to the 2nd player screen in the game.
