wireless guiter not working on wii

Please help
I have bought "ROCK BAND" brand new and my wii console isn't seeing it. the mic works, but not the drums or the guiter.
I have tried pushing the button on the guiter and there is a blue flashing light, but no player number is shown.
The guiter is a wireless guiter with a wireless connection for the wii, not one where the controller fits into the guiter.
Have tried various combinations of drums/mic, drums/guiter, guiter/mic guiter/drums/mic and also tried individually, but still not working. I have tried this with the USB port and also in the back of the console.
Any Ideas??

have you tried pressing the sync button on the wii if not you have to press it and then press the sync button on the guitar if it has one or just press a button
