  • "On the Renegade courtyard, I have tried to get up the upper 2 guys, but was unsuccessful. I will try your trick hopefully tonight, and see how far I get."

You might try jumping to the first rope and then, instead of going over to the lever, rotate around and swing up to the platform. Then jump across to where those guys are. The Renegade Fort is a pain in the arse!
"I am trying to get to the vine/rope that is above the crocodile pit. You have to jump across the tops of the stone pillars to get to it. It sounds like if I double jump in the air I will get there?"

You should be able to reach that vine by double-jumping off the last pillar, yes. Sounds like you're trying to reach the Idol up on the ledge. I was never able to reach it from the vines—no matter what I did, I landed down near that damn mud crocodile. I finally said "screw it" and left that Idol until later. I could tell that there was another way into the Flooded Courtyard because when I was exploring the Jungle Trail I hit a wall requiring pickaxes, and the map showed two ways from the Jungle Trail to the Flooded Courtyard. So I figured the other way might get me the Idol, and it did.
I started a new game of Pitfall tonight to see how quickly I could play compared to the first time. I played for about three hours and I'm at the $%&* Renegade Fort, which comes after the Monkey Temple. The method I suggested in my last message of hitting the "A" button and shaking the remote worked for me. It took me three tries this time to get through that level, FWIW.
It's been close to a month since I played the Monkey Temple, so I can't give 100% certain advice for how it worked for me, but I know I used the "A" button. Also try shaking the remote as though you're attacking someone, and work on getting after "Harry" without rotating the view around (rotating it uses precious time). Definitely don't stand still—it won't work and your time is limited!

It took me a number of tries to get through there, if that's any consolation.
