I have ordered some games for gamecube even though i dont have a gamecube, so i bought them to play on the wii, i also got a controller and was thinking of the following:-

a) will i be able to play the games straight out of the box when the wii is released.
b) will i need a gamecube memory card or can i save the games on the SD card

Yes, the hardware is fully compatible with all GameCube titles, which means you won't need to download patches like the XBox 360 requires.

Yes, all GameCube related hardware is necessary to play GameCube games, because GameCube games are not aware of the additional hardware found in the Wii.

There might be an option to transfer GameCube memory card saves to either internal flash or SD, but who would want to when a 1000 block(hint: you couldn't fill this one up if you made three saves of every GameCube title available) memory card sells for $16?
