Better looking MII's?

i just got a WI-FI and finally got it set up(the system update part that is), and i also downloaded the MII contest channel and i noticed that some charactors had different skin colours(grey) and some had horns or something

can someone tell me how you get something like that please.

It's just clever placement of eyebrows and hair.
