Flip switches

I am new to gaming...not sure how to do the flip switches. I changed them from yellow to blue but nothing happened. This is the first part of the game after you go down a tube.

You have to change all of them, there is a big bank of them near the 'reactor' and 4 scattered around the sphere somewhere else.
