help with gamecube games/classic controller

i cannot seem to make this happen.
i just got nhl06 and a classic controller,
and every time i load the game, it asks for english or french, and at that point the wiimote stops working whether the classic controller is plugged in or not, and the classic controller isn't doing anything either.
each time this happens, i have to unload the game and reacquaint the wiimote with the wii to get it back working.

help! i tried to search here but didn't come up with much for this??

For the millionth time: YOU CAN'T USE THE FREKIN' CLASSIC CONTROLLER TO PLAY GC GAMES!!! You need to use a gamecube controller to play gamecube games. You also need a gamecube memory card in order to save in gamecube games.
