Can an american game be played on a Wii bought in England or Japan?

no there is a region lock on the wii sorry to dissapoint u but the controllors are still compatible

wii software is region locked, so you can only play american games on american wiis, japanese games on japanese wiis, european ones.....bla bla

and also like d1nk said you can use the controllers between consoles, they are not region locked, so aswell as remotes, nunchucks, lan adapters, usb wifi adapters, classic controller etc can all be used on any wii system
