Netflix Announced for the Wii-1.052010-01-13 14:33:48Maura S

There’s been a lot of speculation about the possibility of Netflix coming to the Wii over the past few weeks, and now Nintendo of America and Netflix have finally confirmed it as fact, issuing a joint statement today announcing an agreement that enables Netflix members in North America to instantly watch movies and TV episodes streamed from Netflix directly to their TVs. Netflix is due to go live on the Wii this spring and will be free to Netflix members who have a plan of $8.99 a month or more.

“Our research shows that 86 percent of all US Wii consoles are located in the living room,” said NOA President Reggie Fils-Aime. “The Wii console is the social hub around which friends and family members gather to play games and have fun. Soon both new and longtime Wii owners will enjoy the benefits of Netflix – and a variety of informational and entertainment options – by being Netflix members and connecting their consoles to the internet.”

If you want to stream content from Netflix on your Wii, you’ll need a Netflix instant-streaming disc for the Wii, which will be available for free to Netflix subscribers. Netflix members and Wii owners can reserve a free instant-streaming disc at www.netflix.com/Wii. As soon as the discs are available in the spring they will be sent first class. Once the disc is inserted into the Wii, users will be presented with lots of different movie and TV choices. They can then use the Wii remote to pick a movie or TV episode to watch, as well as reading synopses and rating movies.

Hey there we go! About time! See we have Netflix on my dad's Blu-Ray player and on my 360, but those are hooked up to the same TV. Now if we get it on the Wii which is downstairs we'll be all set ^_^
