New Super Mario Bros. Wii Sales Hit 10 Million-1.052010-01-25 17:07:29Maura S

According to a story on PC World today based on a report on the Japanese business website Nikkei Net, New Super Mario Bros. Wii can now claim to be the fastest selling single Wii game in the world, with sales having smashed through the magical 10 million units mark this January. *However, as PC World points out, the record is for Nintendo Wii games only, as Modern Warfare 2 is actually the fastest selling game across all formats (excluding Wii) to date. To compare by how much NSMB has out-performed some of Nintendo’s other record-smashing games, PC World notes that Super Mario Galaxy had “only” sold 8 million units by March 2008, and Super Smash Bros Brawl sold 8.43 million copies by March 2009.

Nikkei Net also got their calculators out and worked out that with 60 million Wii consoles sold worldwide, the latest figures mean that New Super Mario Bros Wii was purchased by one in six Wii owners.* That’s pretty impressive stuff!
