January 29, 2009 - Nintendo on Thursday released its third quarter financials for its fiscal 2009 and made official, among other details, life to date Wii and DS shipment numbers. Amazingly, since its launch, the company has shipped a staggering 45 million Wii consoles globally. Nintendo said it shipped another 312 million Wii game discs. Meanwhile, it revealed that more than 96 million DS systems have been shipped globally since the portable launched along with 533 million game carts from the publisher.

Seems like pretty good news, no? I helped too! That was the quarter we bought our Wii. :D

That's pretty good, I realize overall sales don't mean much for us as gamers but I never imagined that the Wii (let alone a Nintendo console again) would ever sell over 40 million units.

yea most people bought the Wii because its the new "Tickle Me Elmo" as far as "oh my God what am I going to buy for Christmas" or atleast for most of that 45 mill came from

wii has a lot of sales, if they keep this up they will shatter the ps2 record. ps2 has 124 mil in sales according to (http://vgchartz.com). good games available is more important to me, but i dont think its fair to say its just wii is just a novelty anymore.

wow that great go nintendo well at least while you have the chance sonys got a plan [not really im just being stupid]

They have a long way to go to catch that number but based on upcoming games I think people who have either waited to get one/sold theirs will want one.

So who knows?
