Sega and Dubai properties firm Emaar plan to open a number of indoor theme parks across the Middle East and North Africa.
The parks will be developed in Emaar's shopping malls, with the first outlet planned for The Dubai Mall, a split-level 76,000 square foot complex in Downtown Burj Dubai.
The complex will be based on Sega's Joypolis centres in Japan and feature an indoor roller-coaster, simulators and arcade machines.
"Entertainment is about living dreams, it is about experiencing joy and culture. In joining with a company of Emaar's stature and power, we hope to convey the pleasure and excitement inspired by great entertainment to people all over the world," commented Hajime Satomi, CEO of Sega.
The Dubai Mall already boasts a children's area, cineplex, Olympic-size ice rink and access to Burj Dubai, the tallest man-made structure in the world.
"These innovative 'shoppertainment' concepts further position Emaar Malls Group as a global provider of retail and entertainment destinations," commented Rashid Zakaria Doleh, CEO of Emaar Malls Group.
"Apart from strengthening our international portfolio of projects and maximising our growth opportunities, the Emaar Malls Group and Sega partnership synergises our expertise to provide a world-class experience for mall visitors."
The Dubai Mall is set to open in late 2008, with Emaar Malls currently developing the Cairo Gate outlet in Egypt.
