The choice for a new TV

Hello all, I'm shopping for a new TV. I currently have a tube 26" and I'm thinking to upgrade to a 32" widescreen LCD that would support the 480p for the Wii (prefer the plasma technology but I don't think they come at this size).

My research so far show a few people reporting the Wii display to look worse in 1080i then it does on a standard TV (because we can see the pixels basically). Comparing the same size (32") should I actually take a 720p instead of a 1080i to reduce this effect? What about response time?

Go with Toshiba. They have better description of their product especially witht the 68 billion color stuff.

True, that was my favorite so far. But still, I'd like some imput of someone actually using a HDTV with the Wii, what's looking good and what's not. What about bigger screens?

Hi, I'm a Nintendo fanboy from Sweden and this is my first post here. well, here goes :)

I just recently bought a new TV. A 42" Full HD 1080p LCD tv from Sharp
(Sharp LC42XD1E) And i can say for sure that i'm NOT pleased with the picture on Wii.... =(

The edges and lines around objects and characters are very choppy, not straight, i think it's called aliasing. And wii games have alot of it and it is extremly visible on alot of big LCD highresolution tv's.

As far as pixels go they are more visible than on a tube CRT tv aswell.
But maybe it will look better on a 32" and not a full HD tv.

seems to me that people are getting disappointed that when they have a uber tv + wii, they tend to think that the wii will have beyond normal graphics in which case isn't gonna happen. yes, bigger is better. Just watch the person who hooked his wii in a movie theatre.
 
I own a Samsung 46 inch LCD High Def TV 1080i. You'll be fine as long as you purchase component cables(red, blue, green) for your video. It makes a world of difference.

I would suggest staying away from plasma. In my researching prior to buying, I learned that plasma can cause 'burn in' of images on the screen when playing video games on the TV for long periods of time.

When I get the chance I'll post a pic of one of our games on our high def TV. The images on our TV are awesome!

I wouldn't get too caught up in how the Wii looks on any specific tech/brand/etc. I'd shop an HD set in the appropriate budget/size and research for various techs for the pros/cons.

I'm not a big fan of plasma (especially mid-grade), but like LCD (direct and projection) or DLP. Remember that the set will upscale the Wii output to its native resolution (720p or 1080i/p). Also note that the viewing distance, signal and set size make a difference on 720p vs. 1080p (the latter more for larger 50"+ sets IMHO).

Our Wii is hooked up via (generic) component cables to a Sony 50WE655 50" LCD projector and looks terrific!

I'd honestly take the Wii out of the picture, and get the best TV you can afford. There's not much you can do, you'll always see aliasing when a low res image is viewed on a high res medium. I know that some TV's would probably cover it up more so than others, but again, I wouldn't base a $1k+ purchase on how a $250 gaming machine looks on it.
 
The main thing about plasma displays is of course, the burn in and power consumption. The one advantage plasma has over lcd is the brightness of the display. As far as I know, burn ins on a plasma are permanent, so for video games, I don't think that plasma is a good investment. Lower response times are always better, but you will be lucky if you find something with 6ms, most are 8ms.
 
I would browse avsforum.com to get a good feel for what to look for in a TV. A TV with a good scaler will minimize the issue with how the Wii looks on it.
 
I don't recomend plasma since their prone to burn-in and get warm during use. Get an LCD screen. Good size for the price and some of them have really good picture quality :yesnod:
 
I agree. avsforum.com is where I did all my research before making the big decision. Those guys know their stuff over there.
