Is it possible to play 1 on 1 or do you have to play 2 on 2 at all times? If so let me know how to change it to 1 on 1. Thanks.

Nope, im afraid if you want to play it's only doubles, you can be all 4 people though if you like. Next time there is a search feature that is very useful, but it's ok your new im just notifying it.
