How does this game stack up against other GC classics? I have a Wii and just started my GC collection with RE4 and MP 1 & 2.

I got this game about a month ago, and I got addicted, its a survival horror kind of game, with some decent combat elements an interesting story and the genius insanity system. Its not quite as trigger happy as re4 or any metroid game (relying more on decapitating and dismembering your enemies) but I think it is very much worth it, you never forget the first time you walk into a room and your head falls off then proceeds to quote shakespeare at you.

I love eternal darkness, it's especially good cause you can probably find it pretty cheap. I bought my copy $10 US. It's a great game with a good story and pretty fun gameplay. It isn't classic per se, but I think it's because it didn't sell very well. It's in my top five GameCube games.

Maybe you should review it next episode Tom to tell people about what they are missing out, as before I did some serious GC research I really knew little about the games on offer, as the best selling games are never usually the best games to play. (still on the search for Tales of symphonia)

I remember seeing this back when around 2003, but I never bought it. I've heard many good things about it since then, but it remains missing from my collection. I don't know it it will ever get there.

This is probably my favourite Gamecube game. It has a really interesting mechanism where you play different characters through the game, each of whom have slightly different abilities. It basically takes place in four different locations over the course of 1000 years or so. Each character appears in a different period of history and gets to explore different areas of the same location.
The first time you play, you get to choose what the boss's main strength is, out of magic power, physical strength, or sanity. Throughout the game, you will find that the enemies you have to fight will be different depending on that original choice. That means that you can play through three times with a different boss each time, forcing you to use different tactics.
I liked MP1&2, and I've just started on RE4, but Eternal darkness is great and I'd definitely recommend it, especially as you should be able to pick it up really cheap.

ja, I was thinking about reviewing it, thanks for the suggestion, Flagel!
And wait...you can't find ToS?? That's a shame, it's diffantly the best RPG on the GC

i think Eternal Darkness is what you consider a cult classic. didn't sell too well but a great game!! you must pick it up when you can.

It was alright I got it for £5 very cheap however I got stuck in rediculous point and haven't played it since.

I love Eternal Darkness, what a fantastic game, you never forget when you walk into a room and the game tricks you thinking you controller's broken or tv goes out, or hearing voices or comitting suicide or something weird like that, the makers put way to much time and thought into this game, to much thought for sure, its like "yeah lets create a video game that messes with peoples minds thinking they're insane"

or that bathroom seene, reminds me of the movie: The shining.

I will be reviewing Eternal Darkness on the wiichat.com podcast sometime soon (probably episode 6) so look out for that.
