i currently have an LCD television with a 60 hz refresh rate (i think. it's an emerson 32" that i got for $400) and i cannot play the NES on it because of lag. either the tv isnt made to process the analog (or component cables with the wii and virtual console games) or the refresh rate is garbage. i am in the market for a new tv.

how fast is fast enough so i can play an NES game with it?

So theres lag with everything on it?
You can get a NES AV cable off Ebay and there wonderfull

using component cables with the wii (virtual console games like smb) lag
using rca cables with the nes lag (not the coax adapter)
both work great on my crt

its unplayable. looks clear for a moment, then massive lag and blurryness for 1 sec, then clear and runs smooth for 3 sec, then lag again.

my $ is on the tv.
bad refresh rate or the newer technology cannot process the analog (rca cables) signal fast enough

the room its in is pretty bright so i dont really want to go plasma (glass screen and glare) but it has 600 hz refresh rate.
is 120 hz fast enough? do i need to go 240?

Since you are buying a new TV id say look around first.
google the name and brand and have a look before you buy anything.
Since it does it with every thing te TV is a bit naff.
Get a new one and get a AV cable as the leads these consoles came with where made for years old TVs.
I run my Mega Drive threw scart and it looks really good. Where as threw the old cable my TV wont pick it up (its a CRT as well)
