The notes that look like the fret board on the right^^ ??

You don't have to strum those notes..you can play them by just hitting the fret button. (Called a 'hammer on') But you have to strum the note before it..if you miss the note before it, you have to strum the first one, but can then just hit the fret button for the rest of them.
