To answer the question, there are Virtual Console games, the wii internet channel, and other things to come through the wiishop channel, using wii points, either gotten from a wiipoint card or a credit card.

Games that use online right now off the top of my head: Strikers: Charged, Guitar Hero 3, Medal of Honor: Heroes 2. Endless Ocean, Battalion Wars II,
