I sent an E-mail to Retro studios(their working on Metroid 3) asking that they atleast include an option for a more classic type of control scheme. It seems to me that although Mike didn't say specifically that such a control scheme would be available he was hinting at it(I hope). Here is a copy of that correspondence.

Subject: Metroid and future Wii FPS control suggestion
With 14 years of FPS gaming and modding experience I hope to see gaming hit new heights with the Wii. That said please consider allowing traditional console controller control schemes in games such as Metroid 3 in the future. YES let the crosshair move around the screen but PLEASE DO NOT FORCE US TO TURN WITH IT!Use the motion sensing and axis aswell but atleast provide a selectable control scheme which will allow movement and looking with the analog stick and the + on the wii-mote... I've tried it in my hands and I know it will work.. Use the A button for something like secondary fire(scope) or switching weapons.. Something not done as often as shooting for example... Maybe allow jumping by jerking the nunchuk up... but PLEASE allow us to be able to atleast select a control scheme like I have suggested, be creative but dont force us to turn with the pointer.(This is crushing our hopes for FPS on the Wii and you can clearly see it in the reviews and on the forums.)
Thank you for you time and consideration
A very hopeful Nintendo/FPS fan
