The Wii has built in wifi...why would you have to buy a wifi adapter for the ethernet adapter for the wii with built in wifi...

Think of the internet as having two possiblities. Wired or wireless.

Both will grant you full access to the internet, only with different upsides and downsides.

Apparently, wired is a little faster and more secure.
Wireless needs protection and but allows devices to use wireless anywhere.

So all in all, no matter whether you've got wired or wireless, you're going to be able to play/surf or do anything on the internet when you want.
