probably not, a lot of people hate sony and will crap these forums. You just entered the worst warzone of them all. The 360 subforum isnt under attack so much by rabid wiiboys though.

at least 360 kids apperciate the wii usually.

I dont dislike the PS3, just the games i have played so far have been fairly unimpressive ... that may change idk. It has a lot of potential that unforchinatly because its not really selling will probably not me met as much as they could be. I mean sure we are going have a few killer apps ... just not worth it though.

.

its not really about who appreciates the wii, even I appreciate it. Its fun in its own sort of way. But the real issue is which system comes under attack from ignorant fanboys. They wont feel big and strong unless they have some sort of system to bash, and thus they come here.

As gamers we should be excited about how popular its becoming, and not be loyal to any one system. Its the companies that make the systems that have to be loyal to us, therefore i dont really understand this retarded system hating going around.

I would like to see the PS3 succeed as a gaming system, not a multimedia hub.

The system is a bargain, especially when you compare it to the rumored "360 Elite" (don't know if it's been confirmed or not). For $30 more you get a blue-ray player and full bc, though you get a smaller HDD (but you could get a 120 gig for about $80, which is a lot less than the 360's hard drive). So one could have a PS3 w/ 120 gigs and hd movies for $600 w/ tax, as opposed to $700 for the 360 (if Hd movies are important to you, which they aren't for me). I know the 360 is all about options, but they are expensive options.

However, until Playstation shows us the importance blue-ray will have on gaming- this generation- I refuse to buy the system. And a varied gaming library wouldn't hurt either.

Im not saying you should buy a PS3.. but blue ray is more storage space per disc, which means more next gen gaming can be made. Developers are often restricted to the size of console discs. The PC gaming world is home to some of the best and most ground breaking games ever made, this is due to the fact that storage space is not required on a disc but can be installed and played off the hard drive.

Anyways you might find this insteresting...

Interview with Phil from Sony.
When asked: "Do you think that Blu-ray will be as important to the PS3 as DVD was to the PS2, or is it a slightly different scenario?", Harrison was clear in his initial reply: "I think that Blu-ray Disc as a movie format is vital for PlayStation 3, but it's more necessary as a game format."

He continued of the Blu-ray format: "We need that storage space. You know from talking to developers who know what the demands are for next-generation games, in terms of storage space. They are having to compromise on other systems in order to fit their games onto DVD."

If you want to see games as large as Vanguard Saga of Heros on a console, you will need larger discs, since the consoles really dont do an "install" style of play. MMOs are the future it seems, disc swaping for MMOs would really kill it so it will have to rely on one strong medium.

I'm not looking forwards to a flood of MMOs on consoles... and I doubt there will be. Don't forget that the 360 and PS3 have upgradeable hard drives, which would render the "needed" storage space useless... if we are saying that they will follow in the pc's footsteps.

Look at Huxley or FFXI. They're both MMOs that can, or in Huxley's case "will," be playable on the 360. And I don't see a problem with swapping disc with any other genre's other than MMO's (been doing it with rpgs since the ps1) especially if it saves you $200.

Honestly, I think we will see the industry take a bigger step towards digital media, as in full game downloads, before fully shifting to gaming on blue-ray or hd discs. Stores are already complaining about not making any profits selling new games. And, as much as I hate to say it, the amount of profits to be made from implementing drms on game downloads is something that they cannot turn their backs on. Nintendo's vc is already doing it (not sure if this strictly qualifies as drm or not) and Sony wanted to implement this as well.

I like Sony and the playstation brand, but I think they jumped the gun on implementing a blue-ray player... they could've easily sold a core unit with 20 gigs and no BR for $300-$400 and then had a premium unit with 40-60gigs and BR player for $500-$600. (and then later sell a BR add-on for $150-200, if it was necessary) If that was the case, I think we'd know which unit would be more popular. And that way they would also have a healthy content vs price competition with microsoft.

But clearly they want Blue-Ray to become the standard, and not for gamers' sakes, but to make a nice profit in the future... and I do not stand behind that stance. I also have a big problem with the 360 add-on pricing, but at least there is a choice, or a sense of choice as I hear they may come out with HDD-only games)

no it aint, the controller is not in the same league as the Wii controller. Other than the tilt it's just the same as a ps1 analogue minus the dual shock! poor and very dated really!

The Ps3's motion controls are nothing like the Wii's. lol. They arent that close of a system by far.

I swear it's free... isn't it? Anyone?

At GDC 07, Sony announced that they believe features like Home with online play should be free.
They will have online advertising to make up for this.

This is what they said, not it just depends on if it turns out that way. Only time will tell.
