Wii as a access point

I am attempting to hook up my Direct TV DVR to the internet. Too long of a run for a cable from the router; tried a linksys access point and could not configure. Any thoughts on using the Wii (sits next to the TV) as a wireless access point and run a cable from the Wii to the DVR for access ???

Any help appreciated !!
