If anything could make the Wii 2 come sooner rather than later, it’s reports such as this on PCMag.com, which posts some troubling figures for Nintendo, just released today by NPD, which reveal that Nintendo saw its sales fall by 31.5 percent since January 2010, with 465, 800 Wiis sold in January 2010 and 319,000 sold in January 2011. However, it’s not all bad news for Nintendo, as the Wii is still leading the console market, with 34.5 million sold in the US in total, ahead of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 at 25.8 million, and Sony’s PlayStation 3 at 15.7 million.

Generally speaking, PCMag.com says that January has not been a good month for video game sales, with total January 2011 sales for accessories, hand-held systems and PC and console games dropping to $1.16 billion, down from last year’s figure of $1.22 billion. No need for Nintendo to panic then, if Sony and Microsoft are experiencing a sales slump too, but I still wouldn’t be at all surprised if the Wii 2 is already well on the way.
