candles?

what is all this talk i hear about using candles instead of the sensor bar........i don't understand

Im sure someone can explain it better then me but basically all the the sensor bar does is send or Infrared signals and candles also do this, The sensor bar doesn't actually sense at all but give the Wii-mote some idea as to where the T.V is. I hope that helped

I was able to achieve the same effect with a lava lamp.

Yes, that's exactly what the sensor bar does, it just consists of 5 infrared light bulbs per side (you can see them if you look at it through your cel phone camera or a digital one), so any other infrared light source should work, as long as they are positioned correctly (the distance between them).
