Dancing on Ice Game Announced for the Wii-1.052010-02-18 07:52:14Maura S

This seems like kind of a strange idea for a game, but who knows, it might work! Ghostlight Ltd and ITV Studios have announced today that they’re about to release a Dancing on Ice game for the Wii, based on the hit UK TV show. The show regularly earns an audience of over 9 million viewers in the UK, but is this enough to warrant a video game, and will anyone outside of the UK be even remotely interested? Well, clearly Sam Collins, Head of Sales at Ghostlight, thinks they will, judging by this quote:

“There is a huge overlap between the demographic profile of the Nintendo Wii and DS consoles and the Dancing on Ice TV audience. We are looking forward to seeing the fans of the show play the game and live the dream. We are working closely with ITV and other media partners to ensure that Dancing on Ice the video game achieves its potential as one of the best selling family games of 2010.”

In the game, you get to create your own character, choose a real-life professional skater to be your partner, undertake strict training regimes and learn the “required elements” for your routines. Players will also be subject to the criticism of both the “ice panel” of judges and the viewers who will vote to determine who has to “skate-off” to stay in the contest. Let’s hope that the Wii judges are not as mean as some of the real-life judges!

Dancing on Ice for the Wii will be released on 12th March 2010.
