EA boss: We won't just port anything to Wii

EA has been making optimistic sounds about the Wii for a while now, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the third-party mega-publisher will be porting any old rubbish to the popular console, or - as it’s now officially known within the industry - "doing an Ubisoft".

Nope, if anything, the folks at EA are happy to be choosy when it comes to deciding which games will appear on Nintendo’s motion-sensing box, an attitude summed up by COO John Schappert in an interview with Wired News. "You're not going to see every [EA] franchise taken to the Wii," soothed Schappert, whose company counts Boogie, MySims (see above) and EA Playground among its upcoming Wii games.

"Rather than bring over the entire portfolio of titles, some of which won't translate well, we're taking those dollars and making original software," he added. Need for Speed: Carbon can be our dirty little secret, John.

We suspect such an attitude is a shrewd one, particularly in light of Ubisoft’s recent Wii output, which has demonstrated all the consistency of lumpy custard. But how times change, eh? It seems like only yesterday that fickle old EA wouldn’t give a Nintendo console the time of day.
