yeah give the original cable a go, its alot more likely its poor quality thats making it appear washed out. It sounds pretty unlikely that putting the cable in there would do any damage like that.
some idiot stuck a DVD in my wii, and now the wii thinks that there is a DVD still in it so now it tries to eject a cd thats not even in there whenever i dont leave a game in it
