Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games Sells Over 6 Million!-1.052010-02-22 19:15:57Maura S

With Olympic Winter Games fever currently infecting audiences worldwide, it’s no surprise to hear the staggering sales figures that SEGA has just announced for Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games. The combined sales for the Wii and Nintendo DS versions of the game have now reached over 6 million worldwide, which is pretty amazing, especially seeing as the game was only launched in October 2009. The sales have been helped by SEGA running special adverts during the Olympic Winter Games coverage in North America and most European territories, as well as participating in special events in cities around the world, such as London, Washington DC and San Francisco. Here’s Mike Hayes, CEO for SEGA America and SEGA Europe, talking about the success of the game:

“The original Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games was a huge success for SEGA. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games is one of the leading third-party games for Wii and DS and we were confident the title would have longevity within retail. The start of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games is a perfect time to ensure SEGA is at the forefront of the consumer’s mind when it comes to recreating that Olympic Winter Games feeling in living rooms everywhere.”

In other words, Mario & Sonic rule!
