NBA Jam Confirmed for the Wii -1.052010-01-13 15:23:43Maura S

After several weeks of rampant speculation EA has finally confirmed that their much-vaunted new sports title for the Wii will be a new take on the classic NBA Jam basketball game. EA promises that this latest reinvention of the game will mix the old-school with the new, featuring sights and sounds that fans of the franchise will instantly recognise.

“NBA Jam is one of the most recognisable franchises in videogame history,” said Peter Moore, president, EA Sports. “Diehard fans of the original game have been asking for a remake for more than a decade. We’re very excited to give them their wish this year with the return of this iconic franchise.”

The 2010 version of NBA Jam will feature players spinning towards the basket and pulling off spectacular dunks left, right and centre, just like in the original game. Fans will also be excited to hear that there will be plenty of new features introduced, including new game modes, characters and gameplay depth. Fans can also look forward to true-to-life body types, updated physics, and visible player emotion.

EA Sports NBA Jam is currently in development at EA Canada in Vancouver, BC and will be available for the Wii sometime in 2010.

Note that the screenshots included here are from the old NBA Jam on PS2, just to whet your appetite. It’s a little too early for screenshots from the 2010 version, but as soon as we get them, you’ll see them here!
