The GoldenEye 007 excitement is mounting prior to the game’s release at the end of the year, with Activision releasing nine awesome new screenshots. Anticipation for the Wii-exclusive game couldn’t be higher, especially for those of us who remember the classic Nintendo 64 game, which truly redefined the FPS genre, with those iconic levels and scenes which still stick in the mind to this very day. Happily the game’s developer, Eurocom, clearly shares the same reverence for GoldenEye’s past, and seems determined to come up with a new version that pays great homage to its history, while at the same time being a modern, kick-ass game for the Wii generation.

Eurocom is promising a lot of very exciting multiplayer features for the four-player split-screen mode, including 40 total characters, 8 classic Bond characters, 5 maps, 3 standard modes and 16 special modifiers that enable gamers to create over 500 different game combinations. The online multiplayer mode has up to 8 players, and is designed for seasoned online FPS online gamers with unique modes and an XP system for unlockables and achievements. Other special modes include Paintball, Melee Only, and You Only Live Twice, with more to be announced later.

Activision is also bringing out a golden Classic Controller which will be bundled with the game. Possibly the only downside of the whole thing is the fact that it features Daniel Craig’s Bond and not Pierce Brosnan. GoldenEye was Brosnan’s movie, after all, so surely he should be the star, just as he was in the first game? But you can’t have everything I guess!
