will Japanese wii remote work on US wii?

My friend complained about his remotes not working right for a month, then I went over and was like "uhh did you synch them?" and he looked at me blankly. I wanted to make fun of him alot but I held it in and synched them for him. It's surprising how few people read instructions.

xbox 360 control pads make it simpler for those who dont know about synching, press the middle button, done

all hardware work. its only software (games) that cause the issues.
