Any luck with Toon Link?

Been trying to unlock him for all of today, and the "beat Classic mode with Link" method won't seem to work

Anybody know the REAL way?

no it happened to me too

you have to complete the subspace emisary, than go back to the level "the forest"
than you will find a door right away. go into the door and you will fight toon-link

I'm on there too, probably only 70% though, and am taking a break from SSE. I tried to rush it today but it's too long for a single run I'll try again when I have some more time. For now I'll just play matches in the spare times I have, but I want to play with Toon Link : (
