Nintendo specified certain battery types. They recommended not using rechargeables! Seriously, read the manual. Also don't leave the batteries in the wiimote for more than a month on non usage.

i dont see how nintendo could reccomend not using rechargeables...i mean do they expect ppl to go out buying batteries all the time jeez...plus...most of the rechargables r made for things that need alotta power like cameras and stuff

You can use NiMH rechargeables

Nintendo's customer service page says yes to NiMH batteries, so fear not!!

Energizer 2500mAh NiMH (rechargeable)

lol Those are the ones I have and they are great. I would recommend those if you were looking for chargables.

I use 2400mAh Duracells. They charge in 15min. and have lasted over 15 hrs. and still have 2-3 bars in them
