Cheats...are they bad for your machine?

I have seen there are websites offering numerous cheats to PS3 games.
My question is are they harmful to your system?
The reason I ask is that last year when i was in my 'Zoo Tycoon' phase on the PC, I tried some cheats out (one was to give me an unlimigted budget and so on) and they crashed my computer and did some damage.

I welcome your opinions, thanks

I am pretty sure that cheats will not harm your console in any way. My friend used all the cheats that he could think of on his PS2 and his machine still runs perfectly to this day.

Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo have a zero tolerance policy for their current gen online games. Sony will ban you on Home if you are harassing a player (AKA spam). Microsoft will brick your console until the year 9,999 (Not joking they did it to a Halo hacker). Nintendo will break your console quietly with an update. I think it's safe for offline games using codebreakers, and gameshark. Beware going online with them.

Sound advice that thank you!
(I wouldn't use a cheat when playing online anyway)
I will give them a miss offline too and progress through the games the old fashioned way!
Cheers

The cheats were made by the game developers...they wouldn't make things that harm your console. Unless you are talking about a memory editor (GameShark, etc) in which case they may cause your console to crash, but there won't actually be any damage.
