Strange as it may seem, there has never been an official Squash video game. Of course there have been plenty of video games involving squashing, with some gaming heroes such as Mario being pastmasters of the art of squashing, but no such thing, until now, as an official game involving the sport of Squash. So if you’re a Squash fan who has been pining to play your favourite sport on your favourite console, your pining days are over as of today, with Lace Mamba Global announcing WSF Squash 2012 for PC and Wii. Notable as the first ever official Squash video game, and officially licensed by the WSF World Squash Federation to boot, WSF Squash is due to be released worldwide in Q3 2012.

The game is a realistic simulation of the fast-paced indoor racquet game, with all the tactical challenges, and the ability to play all shots, including drives, corkscrews, boasts and more. Fans will also recognize the 12 realistically modeled players from the official 2012 roster of the WSF international Squash players. The game features single-player matches and tournaments versus computer players, as well as one-to-one matches and online multiplayer tournaments on PC and Wii. In the game, players can create their own Squash player, train his abilities, and choose from a set of equipment. Tournaments can also be held in locations iconic to the sport throughout the world.

“We are delighted to have teamed up with the World Squash Federation to bring the first official Squash video game to retailers throughout the world. Squash is an exciting sport, having a vast fanbase all over the world: The WSF counts more than 147 member federations, totalling to a number of 20 million organized and registered players. There are more than 50,000 squash courts in the world, and the sport is about to become an Olympic discipline shortly. WSF Squash 2012 will be an important, fast-paced and fun addition to the sports video gaming world”, says Jason Codd, Managing Director Lace Mamba Global.
